Steel Acid Patina

Untitled, originally uploaded by CG&S Design-Build.

This view shows the back side of a pantry that was clad with sheets of steel. The steel, before installation, was layered with different solutions of acid to create rich and varied patterns of oxidation. The sheets were eventually sealed to stop the reaction and lock the patterns in place. The finished product helps an otherwise banal pantry become a beautiful focal point of the home. Slate floors take color cues from this element, providing continuity throughout the floor space and up the stairs.
