Just stumbled across these
hauntingly beautiful monuments built by various Yugoslavian sculptors in 1960's and '70s. I'm not sure if I would call them beautiful if it weren't for their forlorn, abandoned, crumbling nature. They are so proud and idealistic, looking to the future with no apologies, and yet 40-50 years later they are in a state of disrepair. Perhaps this matches perfectly with the deterioration of the socialist state of Yugoslavia. In any event, these images are thought provoking on a number of levels.
